LOS ANGELES – SWR Data, an adult industry market research firm led by industry veterans Mike Stabile and MelRose Michaels, has released data from its upcoming 2024 State of the Creator report, which addresses creators’ concerns about political attacks on the industry illustrates.
The 2024 State of the Creator Report will be released later this fall, with expanded data on current industry demographics, revenue, platform adoption and behavior, as well as longitudinal data related to the previous 2022 State of the Creator Report.
According to the SWR Data survey, nine in ten adult creators (88.6%) say they are concerned about cultural and political attacks on the porn industry, while more than two-thirds (69.3%) say they are “very concerned” are. The preliminary data, released ahead of SWR’s upcoming 2024 State of the Creator report, comes from a survey of more than 400 adult creators conducted in July and August.
“Awareness of ongoing attacks on the industry – such as Project 2025, age verification legislation, social media censorship campaigns, and faith-based attacks on platforms like OnlyFans and Pornhub – is almost universal,” a representative explained, adding that only 2, 8% of adult creators surveyed say they are unaware of such attacks.
“Concerns are highest among transgender creators (93%), creators of color (94%), and gay and lesbian creators (100%),” the representative added. “Concerns are also high among creators who also work as dancers/strippers (94%), those who create content with multiple partners (97%) and industry veterans (95%).”
According to the survey, concerns were highest among creators working on sexting and clip/fetish platforms, such as Nite Flirt (95%), SextPanther (92%), iWantClips (90%) and Clips4Sale (90%).
Michaels explained that the data from the SWR survey shows that many creators are already experiencing the effects of the War on Porn
“We see it in the online harassment, the closure of banks, the censorship of social media, the content restrictions imposed by credit card companies and the overall loss of business,” she noted. “We are motivated to protect our companies and our rights. Politicians must realize that there are millions of creators, with hundreds of millions of fans, and that we are ready to mobilize.”
