MONTREAL — The Cupcake Girls and Aylo have teamed up to produce a series of educational videos focused on safety standards for adult performers.
The videos, currently in production, will build on the Cupcake Girls’ expertise in providing support, resources and service referrals to those in the sex industry, and working towards harm reduction in the community.
Topics were selected based on artist feedback, to meet the most pressing needs and equip artists with essential knowledge about working in the industry, with safety and wellbeing top of mind.
The videos cover topics such as how to incorporate content from creators in a fully informed way; testing, consent and online safety; and deciding whether self-representation or working with a talent agency is the best career move.
The videos, a representative explained, “will help explain the necessary elements for a healthy adult career.”
The series is part of an ongoing strategic partnership between Aylo and the Cupcake Girls that began in September, with the goal of bringing greater visibility to the resources and support structures the nonprofit offers to adult workers in the industry. An information and empowerment panel at XBIZ LA in January was also a product of the collaboration.
People who experience abuse in the adult industry, the representative added, “now have access to an experienced anti-trafficking organization that can help them get the help they need. By sharing resources – ranging from collective collaborations to data insights – and connecting with sex workers, the goal is to support consensual sex workers and create an environment where their safety and success are prioritized. The Cupcake Girls and Aylo are on an ongoing mission to combat and prevent human and sex trafficking, promote mental wellness, and further improve the online safety of artists.”
Cupcake Girls director Amy-Marie Merrell said: “Amidst spaces where voices are suppressed by societal judgement, we refuse to remain passive spectators. Our collaboration with Aylo is not about rushing in as rescuers; it is about amplification – creating a resonating echo of advocacy and empowerment. Together, we elevate the voices that have been intentionally silenced, the voices of sex workers and survivors of sex trafficking, and shed light on their stories, their challenges, and their resilience. This collaboration is not just a gesture; it is a movement – a firm belief that every individual in the adult entertainment industry deserves safety, respect and dignity.”
Pornhub VP Brand and Community Alex Kekesi added: “When we announced our partnership with The Cupcake Girls, I was thrilled to be working with the exceptional individuals behind the organization. Now I can confidently say that our combined efforts have enabled both The Cupcake Girls and Aylo to launch a project that we believe will profoundly serve the broader community. We will soon unveil the first series of videos, designed to provide easily shareable resources aimed at empowering sex workers to work as safely as possible. Our shared goal of community harm reduction is at the forefront of our missions, and I believe our collaborative project has significant potential in advancing this goal. The Cupcake Girls play a critical role in protecting community members and addressing the unique challenges facing the adult industry. I encourage other industry players to lend their support to this remarkable organization and its transformative initiatives.”
